Bloomfield Public Library is now accepting directories (past and present) from local churches. The church directories will be shelved in the Genealogy Department of the Indiana Room. If you have a directory to donate, please drop it off at the main library's adult circulation desk. Thanks!

In the Library's Indiana Room is a collection of yearbooks from local schools.
For example, the Library has the Bloomfield High School yearbook, The Owl. Unfortunately, the Library does not have many of the Bloomfield yearbooks from earlier years.
I do not know for certain if The Owl yearbook was published each year. However, if it was a consistent annual publication, what follows is a list of years that the library needs to complete its collection:
1908 1909 1910 1911 1912 1913 1914 1915 1917 1918 1920 1921 1923 1924 1925 1926 1928 1929
1930 1931 1932 1933 1934 1935 1936 1937 1938 1939 1940 1941 1942 1943 1944 1945 1946 1947
If you have a copy of The Owl for any of the years listed above, please consider donating it to the Library. We appreciate the gift.
Sanborn Maps is an American publisher of historical and current maps of US cities and towns. The maps were initially created to determine fire insurance risks.
This is a copy of the Sanborn map of the Greene County courthouse. It shows the location of the fire hose carts and lists the fire proof floors. Notice that Bloomfield's first public library is there.
In the past, Bloomfield has maintained many 3-ring binders containing obituaries which were printed from the microfilm reader/printer. These obituaries were compiled by year, not by surname.
Now, the obituaries are being removed from the 3-ring binders and moved to the info-file in the Indiana Room and filed by surname. This will help the researcher look for an obituary by last name, not by year of death.
In addition, we are adding news articles that may be important to the researcher - such as area family reunions and wedding anniversary announcements.
So, check out the 'new' Surname Search in the Indiana Room.
