Richland Creek Covered Bridge

Picture
Richland Creek covered bridge was built in 1883 by A.M. Kennedy & Sons. It is a 1 span, 100 ft. long, Burr Arch type. The bridge was important because it connected the residents of southern Greene County to the town of Bloomfield. As roads improved and highways were built, the bridge eventually became obsolete and, like many covered bridges, it fell into disrepair. It was closed to traffic in 1957. Since then, the bridge has had several restorations and is a scenic point of interest. In 1993 the bridge was listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The bridge is approximately 1 1/2 miles south of Bloomfield.  The photo is a copy of a postcard picture of the bridge as it look following the 1967 restoration.

Picture
In 1915 this giant sycamore tree was thought to be the largest growing sycamore in North America. At that time, the tree was estimated to be 500 years-old. The height of the tree was 150 ft, the spread 100 ft., and the circumference 1 ft. above ground was 45 ft. 3 in.
In 1924 the tree split apart in a wind storm and in 1925 a section of the tree was placed in Worthington Park where it remains today.
