2/15/2017

If your genealogical search leads you to Virginia you might be interested in a newspaper source written especially for the Commonwealth.
Published in 1987, Genealogical Abstracts from 18th-Century Virginia Newspapers by Robert K. Headley, Jr. provides abstracts of genealogical interest. The author selected newspapers articles based on genealogical information in the article, looking especially for those that gave at least two pieces of genealogical data. The abstracts include marriage notices, death notices, runaway slaves or servants, military deserters, estate sales and settlements.
Each newspaper source lists a printing history, the major area of coverage, and the locations of major collections. Besides Virginia, there are sources from Kentucky, Maryland, and North Carolina.
There are two indexes: Index of people and Index of places, ships, military units, etc.
Genealogical Abstracts from 18th-Century Virginia Newspapers is located in the Genealogy Department of the Indiana Room.
